About Karin
My path to becoming a psychologist has been shaped by a lifelong curiosity about people, resilience, and personal growth.
I grew up on the North Shore of Lake Tahoe and began my career in environmental consulting and higher education, earning an M.A. and Ph.D. in Economics before teaching economics and environmental studies at the University of Puget Sound for ten years.
Drawn to a career centered on helping others, I returned to graduate school and earned an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from the Wright Institute in Berkeley, California. I completed my clinical training at Sierra Mental Wellness Group in Tahoe City, where I worked with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families facing a wide range of mental health concerns.
In 2012, I opened my private practice in Tahoe City, later relocating it to Truckee, where I spent many years helping individuals heal from trauma, navigate life transitions, strengthen relationships, and build more fulfilling lives.
Hobbies & Interests
Outside of Work
Before relocating to Oregon, I spent many years living in the Sierra Nevada, where I volunteered for more than a decade with county sheriff search and rescue teams in California and Nevada. That experience deepened my appreciation for the unique challenges faced by first responders and led me to work with ski patrollers, firefighters, law enforcement officers, and other emergency personnel. I provided both individual counseling and group debriefings to help people process critical incidents, build resilience, and continue doing the work they love.
Today, I’m grateful to call Oregon home. I enjoy living in a close-knit community while staying connected to the mountains, forests, and rivers that have always been an important part of my life.
When I’m not in the office, you’ll most likely find me outside—gardening, hiking, backpacking, backcountry skiing, mountain biking, or swimming in alpine lakes. I also treasure slower moments spent with family, friends, and, of course, dogs.
